Why choose safety stirrups?

Not only a simple saddle accessory, stirrups provide stability and balance for the rider. If you opt for safety stirrups, they will prevent you from getting stuck and greatly reducing the risk of serious injury in the event of a fall. It’s important to choose the model best suited to your needs, to guarantee comfort, technicality and safety.

Choose your stirrups carefully

As a stable platform for the rider’s foot, the stirrup helps maintain a correct and efficient position. More than that, it acts as a shock absorber and stabilizer. It can be a great help in correcting some of the rider’s faults.

The stirrups really contribute to the performance for the rider. That’s why, today, there are numerous stirrups on the market, each offering its own innovation and technical features.

Opt for safety stirrups

Being dragged along the ground for several meters after a fall because your foot got stuck in the stirrup… Although impressive, this accident unfortunately happens very frequently.

While putting on the toe of the stirrup reduces the risk of getting stuck, this habit doesn’t eliminate the danger. In fact, many riders who have fallen despite this habit can testify: their heel was down and the sole of their foot was in the stirrup.

To avoid this problem, equipment brands have created safety stirrups. Their quick-release mechanism allows the rider’s foot to be quickly released from the stirrup in the event of an emergency.

Usually a removable branch that opens when pressure is applied, or an uncoupling system that allows the stirrup to detach directly from the stirrup leather. This is particularly true of Rid’Up stirrups, designed around a patented safety system.

Wide tread: an additional asset for your safety stirrups

More and more stirrups have a wide tread. This means that the platform on which the foot rests is larger. I is a significant advantage for the rider: it improves foot stability, but it also reduces the pressure exerted on the foot and ankle. This reduces muscular and joint fatigue in the legs.

Wide tread can be fitted with grips, which further improve foot retention in the stirrup, or they can be inclined. In this case, they naturally encourage the rider to keep his heels down for a better position.
