How to find the right riding glove size

Size is particularly important for maintaining precision. Once on, the glove should follow the shape of your hand and fingers without creating significant creases in the palm. Your fingertips should reach the end of the glove without leaving an excessive amount of material.

Close your hand as though you were holding your reins: you should be able to bend your fingers naturally without feeling excessive tension. If you are between two sizes, refer to the brand's size guide, as sizing and size systems may differ between Roeckl and Uvex. A size guide is available on each of our product pages.

Why wear gloves when riding?

Repeated friction from the reins can cause irritation and blisters on the fingers, particularly during long riding sessions or when the horse is strong through the shoulders and heavy in the contact. Gloves create a barrier between the skin and the reins and therefore help to protect the rider's hands.

They also improve grip. When your hands become sweaty or the reins get wet, a suitable material helps maintain a more consistent grip without requiring you to squeeze excessively with your fingers.

When should you replace your riding gloves?

The areas that are in constant contact with the reins are generally the first to show signs of wear, particularly between the fingers. Slight ageing of the fabric does not necessarily mean that you need to replace your gloves immediately. However, when the material becomes very thin, develops holes, loses a significant amount of grip or the seams begin to come apart, both feel and hand protection are reduced, making it advisable to replace the gloves.
